Ingredients

  • 1 medium russet potato, scrubbed
  • 1 tablespoon salt plus ¼ teaspoon, divided
  • 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
  • ¼ teaspoon coarse black pepper
  • ¼ cup freshly grated Parmesan
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley

Directions

For Air Fryer:

  1. Cut potato in ¼ x ¼- inch fries. Rinse the cut potato in cold water to remove starch. Cover with fresh cold water, add 1 tablespoon salt and stir until salt is dissolved. Refrigerate up to 2 days. Drain, rinse, and pat fries dry with paper towels.
  2. In a large bowl, combine fries, vegetable oil, remaining ¼ teaspoon salt, and black pepper. Toss until fries are evenly coated.
  3. In air fryer basket, arrange fries in a single layer. Set air fryer temperature on 400°F.
  4. Shaking basket every 5 minutes, cook until fries are golden brown, 15 to 20 minutes.
  5. Sprinkle fries with Parmesan cheese and parsley.

For Air Fryer Toaster Oven:

  1. Cut potato in ¼ x ¼- inch fries. Rinse the fries in cold water to remove starch. Cover with fresh cold water, add 1 tablespoon salt and stir until salt is dissolved. Refrigerate up to 2 days. Drain, rinse, and pat fries dry with paper towels.
  2. Preheat Toaster Oven on Air Fry to 450°F.
  3. In a large bowl, combine fries, vegetable oil, remaining ¼ teaspoon salt, and black pepper. Toss until fries are evenly coated.
  4. In air fryer basket, arrange fries in a single layer. Place basket on bake/broil pan.
  5. Slide pan into upper rack position. Turning halfway through, cook 15 to 17 minutes or until fries are golden brown.
  6. Sprinkle fries with Parmesan cheese and parsley.

Serves: 2

Test Kitchen Tip:  Choose a good potato for frying. Russet potatoes are recommended due to their high starch content. They hold their shape and make a crispy fry. The oval shape of the russet is good for making long French or steak fries.
