In a small saucepan over medium-high, heat water until boiling.
Add sugar and stir until dissolved.
Reduce heat to low. Add blackberries to syrup. Stir and cook 1 minute.
Remove from heat and let cool 2 hours. Press blackberries and strain through a fine sieve.
Place in an airtight container and refrigerate. Add to coffee or tea with half and half, if desired.
Makes: 1 cup
