We are seeking qualified candidates for a Senior Industrial Designer opportunity at our corporate office located in Richmond, VA. Our in-house Design and Innovation team is responsible for developing meaningfully unique small household and specialty housewares appliances as well as commercial restaurant products under a broad portfolio of top brands such as Hamilton Beach, CHI, Brita, Bartesian and Weston.  This is an amazing opportunity to work on a diverse scope of projects across all categories in the organization.  You will have the chance to make a real difference for the business and the end-user through the products they interact with every day.  Please include a PDF sample of your portfolio.

Responsibilities of the position include:

• Lead ideation, concept generation, design, and development for a wide range of product categories from mass to premium retail as well as platforms for commercial environments
• Envision engaging product experiences based on identified user needs and develop refined aesthetic solutions with thoughtful details that communicate relevant brand attributes and delight end-users
• Collaborate within Innovation team to identify unmet user needs through discovery, definition and rapid prototyping phases leading to breakthrough design opportunities
• Develop, document and apply experience brand language design principles specific to each brand in the portfolio
• Explore a wide variety of compelling design options and effectively select and advance those that are relevant for each brand, market, and target user segments
• Accurately establish deliverables and project timelines while applying solid project management skills that deliver highly detailed and usable designs that reflect knowledge of manufacturing processes and assembly methodologies
• Conduct research, user interviews and perform usability testing to create a deep empathy for end-users of our products
• Design, develop and rapidly prototype key user interface touch points (mechanical and digital UI/UX) incorporating solid ergonomics and usability to enhance the product design experience.
• Ability to lead, direct, and inspire our internal designers, engineering and marketing teams with a collaborative and positive style that builds consensus towards next steps through articulate verbal and influential visual storytelling
• Analyze current and future trends related to color, material, finishes and create specifications for production

Requirements of the position include: 

• BS/BFA in Industrial Design from accredited Industrial Design program
• 6+ years of experience as an Industrial Designer
• Excellent rapid sketching/visualization skills
• Advanced 3D SolidWorks surface and solid modeling capabilities and proficient Adobe CC skills, Rhino 3D experience a plus
• Demonstrated success developing progressively more complex product design projects from concept through production
• Well-versed in manufacturing methods that allow you to collaboratively align with engineering teams to ensure your design intent is delivered in final product solution
• Solid understanding of a wide range of materials and how they relate to manufacturing and cost
• Examples showing solid understanding of mechanical problem solving
• Ability to create impactful renderings using Keyshot or equivalent software
• Curious problem solver who is positive, passionate, and enthusiastic about crafting highly usable and relevant products
• Graphic User Interface development experience is preferred
• Cooking/food related interests and/or experiences is preferred
