To bring to life the Good Thinking products at Hamilton Beach Brands, Inc., we are seeking a qualified candidate for the Manager, Consumer Test Kitchen role at our corporate headquarters in Glen Allen, Virginia.  This position is responsible for development of product performance protocols and manages the execution of testing procedures for all new product platforms within the organization.  The Manager, Consumer Test Kitchen is the culinary expert and consumer advocate for Hamilton Beach Brands and is an expert in food preparation, food trends, garment care, air care and product knowledge across multiple categories and brands.  This position provides authentic credibility for the Public Relations team and serves as spokesperson in media presentations, trade show events and key retailer demonstrations.  The Manager, Consumer Test Kitchen works closely and collaborates with product engineering, product marketing, digital marketing, sales and public relations teams. 

Responsibilities of the position include: 

  • Product evaluation protocol, specification and testing: Lead the development and management of product performance test protocols and specifications for all new product categories, competitive evaluation and claims substantiation support. Understand and represent the consumer needs and perspectives.
  • Use and Care Product Literature Development: Lead Use and Care development process and direct work of internal and external resources to deliver Use and Care documentation for all new product platforms and derivatives.
  • Recipe Development: Lead recipe development and testing strategy and create plans to align with all brands for new product launch activities. Direct and manage recipes and recipe content for all brands.
  • Product and Culinary Expert for Media events and Retail Customer presentations: Develop plans with Public Relations group to provide trusted credible expertise to support media events and new product introductions across all Hamilton Beach brands. Demonstrate and showcase products at media events, major trade shows and retailer customer presentations.
  • Collaborate with communications, creative and digital marketing teams to develop editorial content and recipes for use in public relations, digital and social media channels.
  • Plan and develop valuable how-to and product use content (tips) for integration into Use and Cares, documentation, package creative, digital properties and press materials.
  • Manage Home Economist
  • Manage overall test kitchen budget

Requirements of the position include:

  • B. S. in Family and Consumer Science, Food Science, Nutrition, Culinary Arts, or other related field preferred.
  • 5+ years’ experience managing test kitchen including direct personnel management or work experience in a kitchen environment (bakery, commercial kitchen, or other related) required. Strong preference for someone with corporate test kitchen experience.
  • Comprehensive and proven expert knowledge in food trends, food preparation and safety regulations, fabric and garment care, and material (plastic/metal) safety specifications.
  • Proficiency in computer systems including Microsoft Office
  • Detail oriented and self-starter. Ability to adapt to changing priorities and processing systems. Ability to work independently and without supervision.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a preference for media spokesperson training.
  • Excellent recipe writing, editing and editorial skills. 
  • Must be willing to travel overnight including evenings and weekends.
  • Must be able to taste and evaluate a wide variety of foods in different cuisines.
